Fair trade
What is fair trade?
Fair trade aim is to help producers in developing countries improve trading conditions and promote sustainability. It works to get a higher price to producers and social and environmental standards. It focuses especially on products such a as handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, fresh fruit, chocolate, flowers. Fair economy is inverse to capitalist economy: it considers the person as the beginning and the end of the economy and the work as the supreme element. It considers the capital as what it is: an instrument. It stimulates the integral development of the whole society and the dignity of the human beings
The fair trade project is a place where healthy food can be acquired, 100% local, non transgenic like basic grains, jellies, dried fruits, honey, pinolillo, ojoche. As well as elaborated products such as natural soaps, shampoos, creams, all made by women´s associations or campesinos. It has also started an important database of eatable and forestry seeds, besides the important artcrafts of Ngöbes, Térrabas, Bribris, Cabécares and Borucas.
This way we wish to promote responsible consumption by bringing to San José quality products from the campesino and indigenous communities as a way to achieve a real and fair interchange and to give a new structure to local commerce, to strengthen the food sovereignity and that of the local communities.
